“Traumatic Urinals” — Trypophobia
This ceramic piece is part of a conceptual series that uses urinals as sculptural supports—a tribute to Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain—repurposed here as a therapeutic device.
The surface of the urinal is filled with clusters of holes, intentionally designed to provoke trypophobia, the fear of repetitive patterns of small holes. The idea behind the work is to invert the dynamic between fear and control: by urinating over the representation of one’s phobia, the user symbolically confronts and disarms it.
This is one of several urinals created to target different phobias, each offering a ritual-like act of release and potential healing through absurdity, humor, and confrontation.
