SCULPTURE
Penguin Man

Penguin Man was one of my very first sculptures and an important piece in the portfolio I submitted when applying to university. I wanted to create something that felt playful but also technically strong—a character that stood out and made people smile, but also allowed me to show my understanding of anatomy, gesture, and volume.

The idea of a muscular penguin felt absurd enough to be fun and strange enough to feel unique. I sculpted him as if he were mid-stride—part superhero, part cartoon, part prehistoric creature. The body is exaggerated, confident, almost regal, while the face and flippers retain a certain bird-like innocence.

Penguin Man helped me gain admission, but more importantly, it reminded me that humor and technical exploration don’t need to be separate. Sometimes, the best sculptures are the weird ones—the ones that catch you off guard and make you wonder, “why does this exist?” That’s exactly why I made him.
