Small Shroomies

Small Shroomies are tiny, chaotic beings born from the same weird forest as their larger relatives. I imagined them as soft, mutated fungi with faces full of eyes, teeth, and emotion—part plush toy, part hallucination. They look like they’re constantly giggling, growling, or gasping, but you’re never quite sure what they’re reacting to.

I made them using fleece, felt, and stuffing, focusing on the expressive power of embroidery and asymmetry. Each one has a hand-stitched mouth packed with little teeth and tongues, and a cluster of embroidered eyes that feel alive, alert, and a little unhinged. The oversized mushroom caps give them a cartoonish silhouette, but there’s something monstrous hidden just below the surface.

With Small Shroomies, I’m exploring how much personality I can pack into a small, soft form. They’re creepy and cute at the same time—like little forest spirits that escaped from a puppet show gone wrong.
