SCULPTURE
Monk Otter

Monk Otter is an original character I designed as part of my university portfolio. He’s an oriental-style otter monk, a silent wanderer who travels through imagined lands carrying relics, charms, and symbols of spiritual protection. His story lives somewhere between fantasy and folklore.

I sculpted him using cold porcelain, and added small metallic components to bring out details of his staff, accessories, and layered clothing. I wanted to create a sense of history in his outfit—like every item had been gathered over a lifetime of pilgrimage. His posture, the hanging ornaments, and the weathered textures all speak to a calm resilience and mystical strength.

This piece helped me deepen my interest in character design through sculpture, blending narrative, craft, and world-building into a single figure. Monk Otter continues to inspire future characters in this growing universe of creatures I’ve been developing.
