SCULPTURE
Self Portrait #I

This piece is part of an ongoing series where I use anthropomorphic frogs as a stand-in for myself—playful, nostalgic, and always a little bit eccentric. In Self Portrait #1, I sculpted a dapper frog character sitting calmly on a white plinth, dressed in a flamboyant outfit: a deep purple coat with golden buttons, red bow tie, striped trousers, and shiny spats. A red rose is tucked into his lapel, and he wears small round glasses perched at the tip of his nose.

This is not a literal portrait, but a theatrical alter ego. The frog becomes a version of myself: elegant, reflective, and slightly absurd. There’s something timeless in the way he sits, as if caught between Victorian formality and a modern cartoon. I’m fascinated by how a posture, a costume, or a facial expression (even on a frog!) can carry emotional weight and personal meaning.

The sculpture plays with contrast: humor and sincerity, animal and human, sculpture and character design. It’s about using fantasy to talk about identity, but with a touch of humor and self-awareness. In the end, it’s me—just a little greener, shinier, and better dressed.
