Gundam Phone Stand is a ready-made sculpture that plays with fandom, function, and absurdity. I took parts from a Gundam model kit—specifically the sprue frame and a pair of clear plastic legs—and reassembled them into a fully operational phone stand. It’s both a joke and a design solution, a weird little mech altar for your smartphone.
I love recontextualizing mass-produced objects, especially ones charged with nostalgia or pop culture value. Here, the frame that’s usually thrown away becomes the main structure, and the robot legs—iconic and full of heroic symbolism—are reduced to humble supports. It’s playful, but also a commentary on how we assign meaning to things.
With Gundam Phone Stand, I wanted to merge function and sculpture, turning a leftover object into something that feels almost ceremonial. It’s a celebration of improvisation, fan culture, and the beauty of not taking things too seriously.
