FLEXIBLE MATERIAL
HolyBone

HolyBone is a soft sculpture in the shape of a dismembered, oversized arm—complete with fingers, stitched knuckles, carefully crafted nails, and an exposed bone jutting out from the top. At first glance, it might look like a plush toy, but the details reveal something far stranger and more unsettling. The hand is frozen mid-gesture, as if reaching out or offering something unseen, while the exposed bone at the severed end reminds us that this is not just a prop—it’s a relic, a fragment of something once alive.

I was fascinated by how much expression a single limb could carry. I built it with felt and fleece, layering reds, pinks, and whites to evoke both muscle and ritual, injury and reverence. The nails are exaggerated and ornamental, giving the hand a surreal, almost ceremonial feel.

With HolyBone, I wanted to explore the tension between tenderness and horror, between soft textures and violent implications. It’s an object that feels sacred and grotesque at the same time—something you don’t know whether to fear, heal, or hold.
