Luminiscent DuckCones

Luminiscent DuckCones
Translucent 3D-printed sculpture with internal lighting

This is the luminous, large-scale sculptural version of DuckCones, an evolution of my earlier Cone Ducks art toys. The piece continues my exploration of hybridizing two forms of visual language: the playful silhouette of a rubber duck and the utilitarian geometry of a traffic cone.

Made using translucent filament and 3D-printed at a monumental scale, the sculpture glows from within, pulsing with a bright amber light reminiscent of actual road signals. The layered texture and surface transparency reveal the internal structure, highlighting the rawness of the printing process and echoing the industrial materials used in real traffic cones.

Unlike the smaller bronze or toy-scale DuckCones, this version exaggerates the absurdity of the form. The stacked, cone-like body tapers upward into a duck’s head, fusing warning with whimsy, caution with cuteness. Placed in a caution-taped space and accompanied by signs reading PELIGRO, the work creates an installation that blurs the boundary between toy, totem, and public hazard.

This piece is part of a broader series where I distort familiar urban forms into pop-surrealist objects. Luminiscent DuckCones stands at the crossroads between play and prevention—between childhood symbols and adult warnings—glowing like a strange guardian of a space you’re not quite sure you’re allowed to enter.
