FLEXIBLE MATERIALS
Big Shroomies

Big Shroomies are the exaggerated, louder cousins of the Small Shroomies — plush mutations that grew too big for the underbrush and decided to stay weird. Crafted from fleece, felt, embroidery floss, and stuffing, these oversized soft sculptures amplify every feature of their smaller predecessors, turning volume and texture into storytelling tools.

Each Big Shroomie has an enormous, bulbous mushroom cap sewn from soft fleece, with bright pink and white segments and oversized pom-pom «spores» dangling from thread. The undercap is fully detailed, stitched with concentric ruffles to resemble gills, adding a surreal botanical touch. Their squat little legs and rounded body give them the clumsy stance of a cartoon creature or a misbehaving mascot.

The faces are densely embroidered with clusters of eyes — some wide and sparkly, others sleepy or slightly deranged — stitched in purple, white, and black threads that glint like pupils caught in light. Their mouths are chaotic and expressive, stuffed with lumpy white felt teeth and layered red felt tongues. The asymmetry is intentional: no two expressions are alike, and each face carries its own unpredictable emotional charge.

Despite their size, Big Shroomies maintain the same ambiguous energy: are they laughing, screaming, gossiping, or threatening? The answer is always “yes.”

This series explores the limits of softness, pushing plush sculpture into monstrous territory while still feeling huggable. They’re as much toys as they are characters from a fever dream — playful, grotesque, and totally alive.
