DUCK MEMORIAL

Duck Memorial «Hecho en Casa» is a sculptural memory of an unexpected and strangely beautiful moment. During the «Hecho en Chile» event, I witnessed the accidental deflation and collapse of one of Florentijn Hofman’s giant inflatable duck sculptures—an artwork known around the world for its scale, humor, and connection to childhood iconography. But what captivated me most was not the pristine, inflated version, but the duck as it deflated.

Wrinkled, heavy, and slowly sinking, it became something else entirely—more fragile, more poetic, more human. It was no longer a monumental pop object, but a soft, sad gesture: a giant toy folding in on itself. I sculpted this piece in homage to that moment. Duck Memorial isn’t just about the failure of a spectacle, it’s about the unexpected grace of collapse. It remembers the duck not in its prime, but in its quiet fall—a tribute to imperfection, humor, and the ephemerality of public art.
